Homeopathic dynamism of depressive patients of the Isfahan medical centers in 2010

Background
Depression is a common disease in the whole world and its Treatment has many challenges. Non-compliance, side effects
Of drugs, recurrence and resistance can lower quality of life of the patients. In homeopathic approach, patient’s symptoms are evaluated carefully and treated based on the totality of symptoms.
In the present study, symptoms of depressed patients were evaluated through a questionnaire and homeopathic dynamism was defined in a scientific method.

Method
The trained interrogator at the outpatient and inpatient referral psychiatric centers in the Isfahan selected, randomly, patients for whom psychiatrist had registered depression as diagnosis; and interviewed them. The questionnaire had the patient`s profile, their complaints, duration of disease, thought, mood and behavioral symptoms according to homeopathic remedies proving. Then Homeopathic physicians diagnosed their dynamism by the answers in the questionnaire and if necessary, interviewed them (telephonically). Results were analyzed with SPSS software.

Results
83 patients with major depression disease (M.D.D.) and 17 patients with bipolar depression (B.I.D.) were evaluated (23 males and 77 females). Mean of their age was 35.77 ± 11.7 years old and 50 Percent of the patients had some diploma or higher education.
Their main complaint in the beginning of disease was also evaluated: lack of motivation (30.4%), behavioral symptoms (anger) (21.7%), physical symptoms (16.3%), and mental symptoms (14 %??). Behavioral symptoms were reduced, while mental symptoms increased significantly after common medical treatment (P <0.05).The homeopathic dynamism for depression cases was found in Nat.m. in 59% of patients, Aurum in 14%, Sulphur in 6%, Staphysagria in 5% , Pulsatilla in 4% and other remedies in 12 % of patients. The most important factors in development of depression by Nat.m. patients were: family derangement (69%), economic problems (57%) , grief (49%) and love failure (27%).Conclusion These results are different from those of some research on depression in other countries but are near to references of Homeopathic materia medica. On the basis of these results, we can program a treatment method for next research on the core of Nat.m. patients.
